
Jazmine Sullivan was born and raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam was a back-up singer with Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, young, her father got job as curator of City's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the historic landmark. The 2005 graduate of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts in which she was singing music major. Sullivan started singing in children's chorus as a contralto, and then she joined the adult chorus just a few years after that. His exposure to secular music was initially minimal "I had solos singing in churches and a person wanted me to be a part of an evangelical label when I was 11, but I was not yet ready," she recalls. "Then when McDonald's held a contest for children in cities of the world I was invited to perform 'Accept what God Wills' on Showtime at the Apollo and the audience loved it". Stevie Wonder sang her part on his birthday, 13 years old. Sullivan signed her first contract with Jive Records when she was fifteen. When she was 15 the label signed her to Jive Records. She made an entire album at Jive Records and then it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was then removed by the labels. Her work had been in good relations with Missy Elliott. Elliott produced numerous tracks for her which included "Backstabbers" that was written by Timbaland.
